If you are unable to continue ordering, or if you want to continue shopping on another device, everything is still saved. With an account you will not miss anything from Texelana.

Can I place my order without registering?

We aim to ship orders placed before 10am the same day. Orders received after 10 a.m. will be shipped the next day. Sometimes it takes 1 day longer because ordered items have to come from one of our stores.

Is your desired size or color not available in our webshop?

If a desired item can no longer be ordered online in our webshop, we sometimes still have it in one of our stores. What is drop shipping?

Dropshipping means that the product you ordered is delivered directly by the supplier, so it is not shipped from the Texelana warehouse. It is therefore possible, if you have placed an order with several products, that not everything will arrive at your address on the same day.

Pay

How can I pay?

We offer various electronic payment options, via our online payment system. The Mollie company handles these transactions with the utmost care. For special deliveries on request, you can also pay directly to Texelana, we will then inform you about the options.

Clarna

In the unlikely event that your request for payment with Klarna is not authorized, you can of course pay for the order with another payment method.

Size advice

How do I determine the size of gloves/mittens?

We have a special blog article about measuring the size of your gloves / mittens. Read blog article .

When I order sheepskin slippers, why does it say shoe size +1 or +2?

It is important with a sheepskin slipper that you choose the right size. The thick warm sheepskin on the inside of the slipper takes up extra space, making the slipper smaller on the inside, as it were. You therefore often need a larger size than your own shoe size. In addition, the effect of a sheepskin slipper comes into its own when the slipper is not too tight. You can imagine when the fur is pressed too much, because the slipper is too tight, the insulating and moisture-regulating capacity is hindered. It is precisely the small layer of air in the frizzy wool that gives these sheepskin slippers the desired effect.

A second point to take into account is the fragility of sheep leather. Compared to cow leather, sheep leather is more fragile. If the slipper is too tight, pressure points will arise, for example at the front. This weakens the leather and/or seams and makes it more likely to wear or tear. It is therefore important that you choose the right size. Slippers in the right size will last longer. Size advice is stated with all our sheepskin slippers. For the soles of our slippers we use cowhide leather (more durable than sheep leather) or rubber to prevent wear marks.

How did your size advice come about?

We have size advice for the slippers in our webshop. This size advice has been established based on the experiences of our customers and our own experiences. In addition, it always depends on which shoe size you go out with; one brand (shoe) is larger than the other brand. Therefore, if in doubt, please contact our customer service. If the slippers do not fit, you can use the return form for an exchange, which you will find on the back of the packing slip. The article must be in new condition at all times, provided with a label/size sticker and without signs of wear.

At Texelana, the costs of returning are for the account of the customer, sending the new pair is at our expense.

Are the slippers also available in my size?

You can easily view this on our website. If you click on 'slippers' in the menu at the top of our homepage, you can also indicate the size you are looking for below (scroll down a bit). If you check the size, you will see all slippers that are available in this size. If the website indicates that they are not in stock, we may have them on order; we often get these slippers back in stock. you can contact our customer service if you wish, or sign up for our newsletter so that you stay fully informed.

We have written a special blog with extensive information and tips that can help you purchase a wonderful wool-filled duvet.

Origin products

Where do the sheepskins come from?

The coats we sell are of European origin.

The coats come from Great Britain, Ireland, Sweden, Iceland and the Netherlands. There could also be Texel sheep, but we cannot give any guarantees about that.

Does your wool come for the duvets from Texel?

Texelana duvets have a filling of 100% pure new wool. This can be from all sheep breeds, which is why it is difficult to say whether the wool in our duvets comes from sheep that have actually walked on Texel.

Are the products animal-friendly / EU standards?

The branded merino wool clothing that we sell is mulesing free. You can recognize mulesing-free wool, for example, by this logo.

The wool for our duvets is high-quality pure new wool. Every spring the sheep are stripped of their warm coat and we fill our duvets with this. Since Texelana has no production capacity on Texel, all our duvets and underblankets are made elsewhere in the Netherlands.

How does the tanning process work?

The tanning process mainly uses water, fat (minimum amount), soda (minimal amount that is neutralized very quickly in production), natural salt, washing/cleaning ingredients.
We have our sheepskin products produced in Europe according to EU standards.

Maintenance Sheepskin and fur products

How does my sheepskin stay beautiful / how to maintain my sheepskin?

The sheepskin maintenance is simple and easy to perform, it is best to brush the coat carefully every now and then. This can be done, for example, with a dog brush. This way you ensure that the hairs come apart again, so that felting has less chance. How often you brush the coat depends on the type of coat and how it is used. Long-haired coats should be brushed a little more often than clipped coats to prevent felting. In addition, we recommend hanging the fur outside regularly, this has a refreshing effect. Do not hang a sheepskin in the full sun, this can cause the leather to dry out and become hard and stiff.

Wash sheepskins?

We have one clear answer to the question of whether you can wash a sheepskin: no! A standard tanned coat is not washable. The skin/leather side of the coat dries out during washing and becomes hard, which can cause the leather to tear. Unfortunately, leather that has become hard cannot be made soft and supple anymore.

A medicated coat from Texelana can be washed with care, but as little as possible and only if necessary. Medicinal tanned furs are widely used in healthcare and on babies. In case of an 'accident' you can first try to clean the stain locally. The leather should be spared as much as possible to prevent it from drying out.

For more information about our medicated pelts click here .

How do I wash a medicated coat?

A medicinal sheepskin can - only if it is really necessary - be carefully washed by hand. This is because a medicinal sheepskin is tanned in a different way than 'regular' sheepskins. Please note that wool detergent is used instead of regular detergents. Washing should be done very carefully and at your own risk. For more information, check out our sheepskin washing blog.

Can I wash a bicycle saddle cover?

A saddle pad cannot be washed, the leather will become hard. Hardened leather can unfortunately no longer be made flexible. In case of a stain, we recommend that you only carefully clean the stain with some water and wool detergent. Then carefully rinse the fur with water, so that the leather side does not get wet.

Can I wash my gloves/mittens?

Sheepskin gloves are not washable. This would make the leather hard and hardened leather can unfortunately no longer be made flexible. Wool gloves or mittens may be washable. Always check the label in the garment for the washing instructions. When hand washing, never rub hard to avoid felting. Always let woolen gloves dry flat.

Do I need to spray my sheepskin gloves/mitts/slippers before use?

To preserve sheepskin products, we recommend spraying them with a protective spray (no mousse) before the first use - and then regularly. This protects the product against water and dirt. We recommend the Collonil Active Universal protector for this. Please note: sheepskin products cannot be washed!

If your gloves have become wet in the rain, we recommend that you let them dry lying on a towel. Never put them on the heating, because then the leather will harden.

What must a product to be returned meet?

During the cooling-off period, you must handle the product and the packaging with care. You may only unpack or use the product to the extent necessary to assess the nature, characteristics and functioning of the product. The starting point here is that as a consumer you may only handle and inspect the product as you would be allowed to do in a shop.

As a customer you are liable for the depreciation of the items resulting from the use of the items, which goes beyond what is necessary to see whether the product is satisfactory.

The product must be unused and provided with sales labels and/or size stickers. This means that you can try on slippers and/or clothing, but not actually wear them. Also duvets/underblankets/pillows may not have been slept on. Please note when trying on slippers: you should try them on a soft surface (e.g. carpet), so that the soles remain clean and free of signs of wear.

We would like you to do everything you can to return the product neatly in the packaging in which you received it from us, with the original labels and/or size stickers and possibly the original brand box. Only in this way will the product retain its full value and we can resell it.

Maintain clothing

Can I wash woolen clothes?

It is best to wash woolen clothing with a wool detergent that contains lanolin, so that the special effect of wool is not lost. Do not use fabric softener for woolen clothes. If necessary, add a tablespoon of natural vinegar instead of fabric softener. The vinegar gives a nice shine and ensures that the colors remain beautiful.

If you are going to wash woolen clothes in the washing machine, we recommend turning the clothes inside out, so that the outside is damaged as little as possible. It is also important that the drum is not too full, wool needs a lot of space. Always choose a wool wash program on your washing machine and keep the temperature low (maximum 30 degrees, cold wash). Select a maximum speed of 1000.

Drying: it is best to dry your woolen clothes lying flat on the floor or on a drying rack, with a towel underneath. Do not hang the garment; the wool has become heavy from the water and the clothing can stretch and get out of shape. Wool dries best in the open air.

If you put woolen clothes back in the closet, it is best to store them lying down. We do not recommend hanging, because the wool can stretch.

Help! My sweater has shrunk… now what?

If your sweater has shrunk a bit, it is best to put the sweater in a bucket with lukewarm water. Add 1 tablespoon of hair conditioner per liter of water. Let the sweater soak for at least an hour. Stretch the sweater every now and then. Remove the sweater from the water. Squeeze the excess water out of your garment, do not wring or rinse. Now lay the sweater on a thick towel on the floor and roll it up. Wait a moment for the towel to absorb the moisture. Unroll the sweater and gently pull it into shape. Let the sweater dry lying down.

Does wool shrink?

Wool shrinks due to heat (above 30 degrees) and chemicals. If you want to wash your woolen clothes, always follow the washing instructions on the label inside the garment. Preferably use a detergent with lanolin when washing. We would like to emphasize once again that woolen clothing does not need to be washed often. Airing it out is often enough to freshen up the garment.

Why is it best to wash woolen clothes with a wool detergent with lanolin?

The wool detergent with lanolin from Texelana is very suitable for all your woolen laundry. The product is biodegradable and therefore ideal for effectively cleaning a natural product such as wool. What makes this product so special? This wool detergent contains the most important and most caring component that comes from sheep's wool, namely lanolin. This preserves the positive properties of wool. The lanolin ensures that your laundry feels wonderfully soft again after washing.

Tip: Due to its mild character, Texelana wool detergent can also be used very well for washing your dog.

Help, my wool sweater is starting to pill, what should I do?

Wool can pill or pill with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that has to do with the processing process and is mainly caused by friction.

Tips for fluff and pills

  • Always follow the washing instructions on the washing label. Note: woolen clothing does not need to be washed often! See the information above for this.
  • Use a special wool detergent. As a result, the natural fat layer of wool remains intact. This keeps the fibers supple, making them less likely to felt.
  • To get as little fluff as possible, it is best to wash your woolen clothing inside out, preferably in a special washing bag. This way you prevent clothing from rubbing unnecessarily against other rough or sharp (zippers).
  • Do not wear the same (merino) wool item for several days in a row. Wool fibers have a kind of shape memory. If you let a worn garment rest for a day, the fibers have a chance to recover

Tips to remove lint and pills from clothes:

  • Do not pull them off by hand. You pull more fibers to the surface and these will then start to felt even more.
  • With a wool comb. Lay your wool garment as flat and smooth as possible. Lightly stretch the knit with 1 hand until it is completely smooth. Iron with the wool comb in one direction. Repeat until most of the lint and pills are removed.
  • With a lint trimmer. This is a handy device that shaves fluff and pills directly from the knit. Available at home goods stores.

How do I remove stains from wool?

Stains on woolen items are best removed immediately with a cloth with water. If the stain has been there for some time, you can gently massage it in with wool detergent (with lanolin) or with ox gall soap. Let the soap soak in for a few minutes and then gently wash it off with a cloth and some water.

Care for wool products

Can Walking wool go in the washing machine?

Unfortunately, walking wool cannot be washed after use. You can let the Walking Wool air out and then it can be used again.

Can I wash my duvet?

A wool-filled duvet is not washable. Regular airing of a duvet is best in terms of maintenance; by airing the wool will frizz again and get rid of moisture. If you do have the duvet cleaned, you can have it chemically cleaned at a dry cleaner.

Material knowledge

What are the benefits of wool?

Wool has excellent insulating properties, it keeps you warm when it's cold and ventilates when it's hot. That's because a lot of air can get stuck between the strongly frizzy hair. This air layer ensures that your body heat remains between the wool.

Wool has many special properties. First of all, wool has a moisture-regulating capacity, so it can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture and easily release it to the air. Wool is also self-cleaning; it has a bacteriostatic and dirt-repellent effect due to the lanolin. Another advantage, wool is fire retardant; the high moisture content, the high ignition temperature and the high nitrogen content make it a relatively safe material.

Isn't wool too hot in the summer?

We all know that wool keeps us warm when the temperature is low. But wool also has the opposite effect: it helps you stay cool when the temperature is high. Wool has an excellent insulating capacity. In addition, wool has a ventilating and moisture-regulating effect and is therefore also suitable in the summer.

What is merino wool?

Merino wool is a special quality of wool. The hairs are much longer and thinner and have a very fine structure. That is why merino wool is so particularly suitable for making clothing. The thin, fine wool hairs of the Merino sheep are about 0.01 mm thin, in contrast to the wool hairs of, for example, the Shetland sheep, which have wool hairs of no less than 0.04 mm thick. The thinner and finer the wool hairs, the less it itches. There is even an itch point; in most people, wool starts to itch with wool hairs from 0.028 mm thick. Merino wool with 0.01 mm thin hairs will therefore generally not feel itchy. This makes merino wool extremely suitable for making clothing.

What is Walking Wool?

Walking Wool, also called anti-pressure wool, is sheep's wool that is rich in wool fat. The aid has a pressure-relieving and skin-healing effect. It is a versatile product that can be used in various ways. For more info see this product .

What is wolborg?

Wolborg is made of wool, woven in tricot. This creates a material that is strong, soft and warm.

What is wool felt?

Wool felt is not made from yarn, but from raw wool. If you look at the wool fiber under the microscope, you will see small scales and side hairs. Under the influence of moisture and heat, these scales open. Due to the friction, the scales and side hairs hook into each other. In this way, the wool shrinks, as it were, and the material becomes more compact and firmer. Wool felt is very strong and very durable. We sell Haflinger and Glerups slippers made of this sustainable material.

What is Boiled Wool?

With boiled wool, wool yarn is first knitted and then boiled. Cooking shrinks the wool and makes it firmer and firmer. Boiled wool retains its beautiful color and hardly creases. Boiled wool is used in clothing and slippers, for example in Giesswein slippers.

What is pure virgin wool?

Virgin wool is a type of wool; virgin wool comes from a healthy and living sheep. You can recognize pure new wool by the international wool brand.

“Regular” wool is wool that has been reused and therefore does not come directly from a living sheep. Lambswool is the shorn wool from a lamb between 7 and 9 months old.

What Are Medicinal Tanned Furs?

Texelana medicated pelts are mildly cleaned according to EU standards and are ecologically tanned.
