A good night's sleep largely depends on the right body temperature. Not too cold, but also not too hot that you will feel sweaty or clammy. We are happy to explain to you how a wool duvet can help with this. Sleeping under a wool duvet provides a pleasant sleeping environment. A wool duvet is airy, comfortably warm and breathable. Wool keeps you warm when it's cold and ventilates when it's warm. The wool fiber contains many frizzy hairs. Air is retained between these frizzy hairs as an insulating layer. This air layer provides a temperature-regulating effect and has breathability.
Tip! The ideal bedroom temperature is between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius.
You lose about half a liter of fluid every night. This happens partly through your breath, but also largely through the skin. (perspiration). Wool has the unique property of being able to absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture and release it back into the air. In addition, wool has a natural protective layer (lanolin). This prevents moisture from penetrating the wool fiber. By airing your bed daily, moisture can be released and you can keep your bedding fresh for longer.
Tip! Ventilation is important, open your bedroom for at least half an hour every day.
Wool is used to fill our duvets; wool is naturally very frizzy. The frizzy character, together with the wool fat, creates a resilient layer of wool that has an insulating effect. This way you stay pleasantly warm and dry in cold weather. In warmer weather, the wool actually regulates moisture and ventilates. The natural fat in sheep's wool is called lanolin. The positive property of this wool grease is that it makes the wool dirt-repellent. Therefore, in terms of maintenance, it is sufficient to air a wool blanket outside. The wool fat helps the wool fiber remain flexible. Other positive properties of the wool grease are an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal effect. Scientists have not yet been able to recreate a fiber that has the positive properties of wool. Wool is nature's high-tech fiber.
Wool duvet advantages and disadvantages
Advantages:
Wool works...temperature regulating; it keeps you warm when it's cold and ventilates when it's hot. Wool is an excellent insulator.
Wool works...moisture regulating; it simply absorbs moisture and lets it evaporate back into the air.
Wool works...self-cleaning; Dirt and bacteria resistant thanks to the natural protective layer (lanolin).
Wool works...fire retardant; Due to its high moisture content and high ignition temperature, wool is a relatively safe material, making a wool duvet a good investment. The insulation value of wool hardly deteriorates. A wool duvet is strong and has a long lifespan.
Cons:
Actually, we can only think of advantages for a wool duvet. The only "disadvantage" we can mention is that a wool duvet cannot be washed. Dry cleaning at a dry cleaner is of course possible. But regularly airing a duvet is best in terms of maintenance; By airing the wool will frizz again and get rid of moisture.
Tip! We recommend that you open the duvet instead of immediately making the bed.
What about the ticking, what are the differences?
Texelana has 3 different types of ticking; cotton, percale cotton and cotton satin.
- Cotton is a natural product and comes from the cotton plant. The fibers are spun into threads and used to make air-permeable textiles. Cotton has great properties: it breathes and is moisture-absorbing.
- Satin and Percal say nothing about the material, but about the way of weaving. Percale cotton is 100% natural cotton. It is woven with a higher thread count. This makes the fabric feel softer and more flexible. The fabric also remains beautiful for longer due to the higher weave density.
- Cotton satin is 100% natural cotton; However, it feels softer and smoother than regular or percale cotton, due to the special 'satin weave'. The cotton is woven much closer together and therefore more threads are used. More threads per square inch means higher quality and smoother fabric. The satin weave also makes the fabric slightly shiny.

To get an idea of your situation and needs, you can ask yourself some questions, for example;
- How warm is it on average in my bedroom?
- Do I live in a well-insulated house? Or do I live in a less well-insulated house, meaning the temperature can drop below 10 degrees at night?
- Does my bedroom have a constant temperature?
- Am I a hot sleeper or a cold sleeper? By this we mean that there are differences: some people are always cold, others quickly overheat. In both cases, wool is the right choice because wool regulates temperature. People who generally get cold easily can opt for a warm version, while people who sleep hot should choose a loose and airy duvet.
- In which season do I want to use a duvet?
- A duvet lasts a long time, will your sleeping environment change in the near future, for example by moving to a well-insulated home? Or perhaps a less insulated older detached home? Then take that into account.
The choice for a particular duvet is often personal, for example, one person may find it too warm, while another may often feel cold. In addition, you must of course take the seasons and the temperature in your bedroom into account. That is why duvets are divided into warmth classes. The heat class indicates the warmth and thickness of the duvet and can help you make your choice.

There are four heat classes: 1, 2, 3 and 4.
- Class 1 is the thickest and warmest duvet.
- Class 2 is warm and is most commonly used in winter. Our wool-filled 4-season duvets and the Excellent winter duvet fall into these classes.
- Class 3 is medium warm and best suited for the spring and autumn months. The Excellent spring and autumn duvet falls into this warmth class.
- Class 4 is the thinnest, least warm and most suitable as a summer duvet. The Excellent summer duvet falls into this warmth class.
A 4-season duvet is the most complete duvet. You can create exactly the ideal heat with this. The duvet consists of a summer part and a spring and autumn part, these 2 duvets together provide a wonderfully warm winter duvet.
Suitable for:
- Less well insulated house / bedroom; very warm in the summer and quite cold in your bedroom in the winter.
- The bedroom does not have a constant temperature, cools down quickly at night.
- You always get warm quickly or you are cold.

Tip! In a well-insulated house, a spring and autumn duvet is often sufficient. However, we can imagine that you still need a separate summer duvet or an extra warm winter duvet. In this case we recommend a 4-season duvet because it is cheaper to purchase than two separate duvets.
